Wales injury bulletin update as George North, Jonathan Davies and Josh Navidi expected to be fit for England clash

Wales boss Wayne Pivac expects to have George North and Josh Navidi back to bolster the team for the big Six Nations clash with England at the Principality Stadium.

Pivac saw his options for Saturday's game with Scotland at Murrayfield this weekend severely restricted because of injuries to seven players either during or after the opening day win over Ireland.

Among the absentees are North (foot) and Navidi (neck), while Jonathan Davies, who missed the Ireland win, also wasn't deemed fit enough with his ongoing ankle problem.

Josh Macleod, who was chosen to start against the Scots only to injure his Achilles 30 minutes afterwards in training, is another of the walking wounded and will be out of action for six months.

Joining those on the sidelines are Tomos Williams (hamstring) and Hallam Amos, Johnny Williams (head injuries).

Dan Lydiate has been released after the knee ligament problem that forced him from the field early in the game against Ireland.

Centre star Davies is expected to be fit for the visit of England in a fortnight’s time and it is hoped that Navidi and North will join him back in the selection mix then too.

There was no update on Amos or Johnny Williams, however they were not considered for Scotland this weekend because of the six-day turnaround.

“Josh is getting his neck treated and George has had a scan on his foot,” said Wales boss Pivac.

“George is over the eye injury that he picked up in the Ireland game, so that was pleasing.

“He’s got a foot injury and, hopefully, he’ll be right for the England game. We’re treating the players as if they’ll be okay in time for that fixture.”

With Johnny Williams and North out of the equation, Nick Tompkins and Owen Watkin will start at centre against the Scots, with new call-up Willis Halaholo on the bench.

“There has been a lot of time spent in the medical room, I’ve got to tell you,” said Pivac.

“We were really happy with how the midfield got on last Sunday and we’re disappointed that neither of them will be there this week. They were forming a powerful combination in training.

“It’s another opportunity for Owen Watkin at 13 with Nick, who obviously came on and played pretty well at 12 will resume in that position.

“Willis Halaholo will get an opportunity off the bench so it’s an exciting time for him.”

Pivac insisted he wouldn't dwell on the setbacks and said he hadn't reviewed the string of injuries to check for a pattern, though did accept it was an unusually high number.

"You’ve just got to box on, you can’t dwell on it," he said. "All coaches will say that one man’s misfortune creates an opportunity for somebody else. That’s certainly the way we’re looking at it.

"It’s about getting those boys who are in the team prepared in the best way we can. It’s just a matter of going out and preparing the side that we have available.

"We’ve got about 21 players unavailable from the first Six Nations. It’s a high number.

"I haven’t gone through the list of injuries to look for patterns but the medical boys will always do that in due course. I don’t have that information in front of me.

"It is a high number but I don’t know how that compares with other countries."
