Wales hit by more than a month's rain in 48 hours with 91mph gusts recorded during Storm Dennis

Parts of Wales have been hit with more than a month's rainfall in 48 hours during Storm Dennis.

Maerdy, Rhondda, received the most rainfall as major flooding caused South Wales Police to declare a "major incident".

The average monthly rainfall for February in Wales is 111.1mm, the Met Office said.

But parts of Wales far exceeded that this weekend according to Natural Resources Wales.

  • Maerdy (Rhondda) 163mm
  • Crai Reservoir (Upper Usk) 162mm
  • Tyn y Waun (Rhonnda) 156mm
  • Nant Yr Isfa (Cynon) 154mm
  • Storey Arms (Brecon Beacons) 135mm
  • Hirwaun (Cynon) 135mm

There are currently two severe flood warnings warning of "danger to life" in place for the River Taff in Pontypridd and the River Neath at Aberdulais.

Across Wales there are also 54 flood warnings in force where flooding is expected.

A yellow weather warning is in place for wind until 11am on Monday for Cardiff, Swansea, and the entire Welsh coastline.

As well as heavy rainfall winds of up to 91mph battered Wales as the worst of the storm hit.

The highest wind speed was recorded in Aberdaron, followed by Capel Curig, BBC weatherman Derek Brockway said.
