Wales health minister Eluned Morgan is self-isolating after coming into contact with a Covid-19 case

Wales' health minister Eluned Morgan is self-isolating after coming into contact with a potential positive case of coronavirus.

Mrs Morgan was due to lead a press conference on Monday. Instead it was taken by Dr Gillian Richardson, Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Vaccines), and Dr Frank Atherton, Chief Medical Officer for Wales.

A Welsh Government spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that the minister for health and social services is self-isolating as a precautionary measure after coming into contact with a potential positive case of Coronavirus.”

The Welsh Government will announce on Wednesday the decision about whether there will be any further relaxation of coronavirus rules.

The cabinet had a two hour meeting on Sunday to discuss the latest data and information. It will also meet again Monday afternoon and there will likely to be at least one more meeting ahead of Wednesday's decision. While we understand some decisions have been taken, cabinet members asked for further information on a range of topics and will be considering the latest data until Wednesday.

There is no set time yet for Wednesday's announcement. We expect the First Minister to take a press conference at some point but it isn't yet decided if it's going to be before or after he speaks in the Senedd at 3pm.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to lead a press conference at 5pm tonight (July 12) where he is expected to say he will go ahead with lifting almost all restrictions in England. Scotland is currently aiming to ease restrictions on August 9, but rising case numbers could see that postponed again.
