Wales fire-break: Can you move house during lockdown?

New lockdown rules are being introduced across Wales this week.

A two week fire-break lockdown will start on Friday, October 23 at 6pm. The new lockdown rules in full can be found here.

The fire-break is a time-limited lockdown and was described by the First Minister as a "short, sharp, shock to turn back the clock, slow down the virus and buy us more time".

When it comes to moving house, however, the Welsh Government has published advice. Here's what the new fire-break lockdown means for those in the process.

Can I move home?

The Welsh Government said in a statement on its website: "Yes, if you can't delay the moving date until after the short lockdown period is over.

"Associated activities, for example, removals processes, property preparation, handover of keys, surveys and valuations can also take place in line with guidance on working in other people's homes."

However, home viewings, much like back in March, cannot take place during the fire breaker period and high street estate agencies are required to close. Although, virtual viewings can still take place.

Mortgage surveys cannot take place at any occupied properties during the lockdown period.

Vacant properties can be entered and street level surveys can take place.

You cannot travel to a second home during the two-week lockdown, however.

The Wesh Government said: "Travel in Wales without a reasonable excuse during the circuit breaker lockdown period is an offence. Travelling into, out of or within Wales to visit, check/inspect or stay in a second home is not a reasonable excuse."

The fire-break lockdown will last for two weeks, starting at 6pm on Friday, October 23 and ending on Monday, November 9.
