Wales-filmed His Dark Materials the most-watched new drama for 2019 as millions tune in

It's one of the most expensive dramas the BBC have ever aired and His Dark Materials is definitely paying its dues as it's just become the biggest new drama launch of 2019 for the network.

Since the first episode aired earlier this month, 9.7million people have watched the opener which saw much of the  action that was filmed in at Wolf Studios in Wales as well as Oxford.

The show, a co-production with HBO, is also aired on Monday nights in America where 700,000 viewers tuned in to the opener.

His Dark Materials was made by Bad Wolf and many of the  interior shots are made in Wolf Studios in Cardiff, locations in Wales are also used such as the Brecon Beacons , Cardiff's Civic Centre and Temple of Peace. You can find more on those locations here .

Dafne Keen stars as yra Belacqua (BBC/Bad Wolf/HBO)

The show is based on Phillip Pullman's trilogy and series two has already started filming in and around Cardiff. The show stars Dafne Keen as Lyra, Ruth Wilson as Mrs Coulter and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby.
