Wales' fans zone packed again as supporters go through emotional turmoil before joy

Wales fans felt the full range of emotions as Rob Page's men secured their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2020 in dramatic fashion.

The Red Dragons were beaten 1-0 by Italy while Switzerland secured a 3-1 triumph over Turkey.

It meant Wales and the Swiss both finished level on four points after what was a truly frenetic day of action.

But Page's side clinched second spot in the group on goal difference to ensure they progressed into the last-16 of the showpiece event. You can read more about their next opponents here.

It was far from plain sailing though.

Fans were watching across Wales while a small contingent of the Red Wall had tickets to watch the drama unfold in front of their very eyes at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.

But images of those who viewed on the large screens at Vale Sports Arena sum up the emotional roller coaster that is watching Wales.

Supporters packed out the Penarth venue and made their voices heard during the course of the nervy loss to Italy.

And the updates that filtered in from Switzerland's win over Turkey - along with Ethan Ampadu's red card in the Wales game - did little to settle the stresses of the afternoon for the Wales fans.

But worry swiftly turned to ecstasy as the full-time whistles blew in both Rome and Baku as Wales earned their place in the last-16.

Wales will take on the runner-up of Group B in the last-16. The game will be played at Amsterdam's Johan Cruyff Arena on Saturday. Kick-off is at 5pm.

They will be up against either Belgium, Russia, Finland or Denmark. They will discover their opponents on Monday night when the final round of Group B fixtures take place.
