Wales fans' zone erupts as Euro 2020 win sparks wild scenes back home

There were jubilant scenes of joy on Wednesday night after Wales beat Turkey in dramatic Euro 2020 fashion.

Goals from Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts pushed Rob Page's men to the brink of Group A qualification for the knockout rounds, with fans in Baku and back in Wales kicking every ball.

With the Red Wall advised not to travel to Azerbaijan, supporters packed pubs and bars across the country to watch the key clash.

And there were brilliant celebratory scenes at the Vale Sports Arena in Penarth, with fans cheering on Gareth Bale and Co, with those 400 hardy souls in the stadium well backed up those who cheered on from afar.

It was a sea of red at the Vale, with supporters going through a rollercoaster of emotions during the match. The packed-out venue was full of song on a night of high drama.

From Ramsey's superbly-taken opener to Bale's missed penalty, there won't have been many fingernails left as the game approached full time.

But Roberts' late second sent the place into overdrive, with supporters embracing each other and jumping around celebrating Wales' achievement.

Staff at the venue worked extremely hard to keep supporters socially distanced in compliance with Covid-19 regulations, and the event was well observed.

Wales' win over the Turks means they are likely to be the first country to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, which this year is being held across Europe to mark the tournament's 60-year anniversary.

Page's men now face Italy in Rome on Sunday to decide who tops the group standings.
