Wales circuit break lockdown confirmed by Welsh Government - this is what it will include

Welsh Government has today confirmed a circuit break lockdown for Wales - starting this Friday.

Last week First Minister Mark Drakeford said the Government was considering a "fire-break" - with a short, sharp version of the lockdown seen in March.

Since then more details have emerged on the measures under consideration as briefings were held with local authorities and other stakeholders.

A letter was also leaked to political website Bubble.Wales from the Confederation of Passenger Transport which seemed to confirm a circuit breaker decision had already been made.

He said if they don't act now there was a very real risk the NHS would be "overwhelmed".

Now the First Minister has confirmed details of that lockdown.

These include:

  • Two week 'fire break' starting 6pm on Friday to November 9.
  • Everyone will be required to stay at home, working from home wherever possible. Exception critical workers and where working from home not possible.
  • Non-essential retail, leisure, hospitality and tourism businesses will close.
  • Community centres, libraries and recycling centres will close, and places of worship, except for funerals and weddings.
  • Child care will stay open. Primary and special schools will reopen after half term.
  • Secondary schools will reopen for 7 and 8 only and for those taking exams. Other students to stay home for extra week.

  • University students also have to stay home and learn online.

  • No gatherings with people do not live with, indoors or outdoors.
