Jonathan Davies looks set to rejoin to Scarlets next season from the French side Clermont Auvergne.
The Welsh Rugby Union chief executive, Martyn Phillips, confirmed a deal was close for the 27-year-old Wales centre, who left his boyhood club last year.
“[The Scarlets chief executive] Darran Phillips and I have a few i’s to dot and t’s to cross,” Phillips said. “But we very much hope he’s going to come back and if he does we’ll confirm that as soon as we can.
“It’s a coup definitely for Welsh rugby, he is a marquee player. It’s great for Scarlets as well, that’s where he’s from and I’m sure it’ll give a fillip to the region. It’s down to Darran and I now to get the job done.”
Davies, who missed the World Cup because of a knee injury, has won 48 caps for Wales. He joined Clermont on a two-year deal last summer.
