Wales call in world renowned concussion expert to oversee Dan Biggar's recovery as he lines up against France

Wales have revealed the stringent protocols Dan Biggar went through to line-up at fly-half against France on Saturday, which were overseen by a world renowned concussion expert.

Biggar was named at No.10 when Wayne Pivac announced his team on Thursday lunchtime for the weekend clash with the Grand Slam chasing French.

He plays after coming off during the defeat to Ireland, having had similar concussion issues in the World Cup games against Australia and Fiji.

But Wales say 'a globally renowned concussion expert' was drafted into the Welsh set-up to help look at Biggar's recovery process and give him the green light to play against France.

A WRU statement read: "Dan has been in full training since last week and has completed all protocols.

"All testing has been undertaken with the addition of a globally renowned concussion expert reviewing Dan’s return, which was pro-actively sought by the WRU medical team.

"All steps taken have been with Dan’s health at the forefront of decision-making as player welfare is the number one priority."

Biggar went off in the second half during the game in Dublin 12 days ago following a collision with centre Robbie Henshaw, his third concussion in less than six months.

But Wales' medics have monitored him closely and are happy with his recovery.

Henshaw has also been passed for to play for Ireland against England at Twickenham on Sunday, as the men in green chase the Triple Crown.

Wales have made two changes to the team to face France, with Ross Moriarty replacing Aaron Wainwright in the back-row and Gareth Davies chosen at scrum-half ahead of Tomos Williams.
