Wales, Burnley and former Swansea City star Connor Roberts in hospital as fiancee posts bedside photo

Wales and Burnley defender Connor Roberts is in hospital.

His fiancee Georgina Marcella, who is pregnant with the couple's first child, posted a photo on Twitter holding the former Swansea City player's hand, with a band visible around his wrist.

She confirmed he was there through illness - not Covid - and that she had to wheel him into hospital in the post published on Saturday night.

Georgina wrote: "By ur side through anything.

"I love u x - seen a bit of speculation on twitter, connor is very very poorly but it isn’t covid (yes other illnesses still exist). He will be in hospital for a little while, but I wheeled him in and I hope to be walking him out asap."

On Instagram, she wrote: "me and bump will spend every day in hospital beside u until ur better & back home xxx I love u."

Both posts were flooded with well-wishers, dominated by Wales and Swansea supporters, sending their thoughts to the couple.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche revealed in the week that Roberts had been laid low through illness and that he would miss Sunday's clash with West Ham United at Turf Moor.

He said: "Connor Roberts is one I should mention, he's gone down ill this week, quite ill, he's had a number of days off."

He confirmed that it wasn't Covid, adding: "It's through illness, he thought he was coming out of it and had another dip. We are finding out more, it's a bug situation but it's knocked him down for a few days, it's been three or four days now."

Roberts left Swansea in the summer to join Premier League outfit Burnley in a deal worth in the region of £2.5million.

He has yet to really make his mark in Lancashire due to the serious groin injury he suffered during Wales' Euro 2020 campaign hampering his first-team chances.
