Wales boss Wayne Pivac believes its too late to move 2021 Six Nations to guarantee fan attendance
pWayne Pivac believes it#x2019;s too late in the day for the Six Nations to be moved back to allow crowds in for Wales#x2019; home matches./p
pIt has been suggested it would make sense for the Championship to be postponed for a couple of months to enable fans to be allowed into the grounds./p
pWRU chief executive Steve Phillips revealed a few weeks ago that talks had been taking place about the possibility of delaying the tournament./p
pHe pointed out if Wales#x2019; home games against Ireland and England in February have to be played behind doors because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it would cost the WRU #xA3;13.5m./p
pHowever, he acknowledged that moving back the Six Nations would be problematic in terms of fixture congestion, while there would be no guarantee of fans being allowed in at a later date./p
pNow head coach Pivac has given his thoughts on the subject./p
pquot;I think we are so close to the Six Nations now, I can#x2019;t see anything changing there, quot; he said./p
pHis hope is that some fans will be able to go to the games at the Principality Stadium in February./p
pIn England, 2,000 spectators can now attend sports events in Tier 2 areas, with 4,000 allowed in Tier 1 locations./p
p But, in Wales, a data-content-type=news data-link-tracking=InArticle|Link href=https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/welsh-government-wont-fans-return-19378116 rel=Follow target=_selfsport has to continue behind closed doors/a under Welsh Government rules, which means no fans at Parc y Scarlets for Saturday#x2019;s Nations Cup game against Italy. /p
pNew national restrictions come into force on Friday, December 4, in Wales, with the First Minister saying Wales will then be in the equivalent of Tier 3 in Scotland and England, where spectators are not allowed./p
pIt remains to be seen how long that policy, which will be kept under review, will stay in place and whether the landscape will have changed come February, with a vaccination programme about to be rolled out./p
pPivac is keeping his fingers crossed as he looks ahead to the new year./p
pquot;Obviously crowds are important to all sport, quot; he said./p
pquot; We would love it to be back to what it was and any sort of crowds./p
pquot; The reasons for having them or not having them, I don#x2019;t have all the information on that./p
pquot; If we get crowds, that would be a bonus, but we are sort of boxing on, focusing on this weekend./p
pquot; If we get crowds, that would be fantastic, but there are a lot of things can happen between now and then.quot;/p
