Waitrose issues urgent product recall over safety fears

Barely a day goes by without one of the major supermarkets issuing a product recall.

Today (August 15) the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a warning over some of its soups - because they could pose a risk to people with allergies.

The FSA said: "Waitrose is recalling Waitrose Sweet Potato & Coconut Soup and Waitrose Roasted Tomato, Bean & Quinoa Soup because some of the pots have been filled with an incorrect product which contains soya that is not mentioned on the labels.

"This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya."

The product details

The soups being recalled by Waitrose (FSA/Waitrose)

Waitrose Sweet Potato & Coconut Soup (400g). Use by: August 25, 2019

Waitrose Roasted Tomato, Bean & Quinoa Soup (400g). Use by: August 25, 2019

No other Waitrose products are known to be affected.

The FSA's risk statement says: "These products contain soya making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya."

What to do if you have the product

What is a product recall?

Waitrose has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

Waitrose has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers, explaining why the recall has been issued and what to do.

It says: "Return the product to your local Waitrose for a full refund."
