Waitrose issues product recall over product which could have undeclared allergens

Supermarket giant Waitrose is recalling one of its products after some pots were filled with the wrong flavour soup.

Some tubs labelled as 'carrot and coriander' with a use by date of November 27 have actually been filled with vegetable soup, which contains two products which could cause allergic reactions.

The vegetable soup contains barley and celery, two ingredients which are not included on the other product’s label.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an alert over the product.

Customers who are allergic to these ingredients are advised not to consume the product and to return them to their local store as soon as possible, where they will receive a full refund.

Waitrose has issued point-of-sale notices explaining to customers the reason for the product recall and details on what to do in the event they may have purchased the soup.

A spokesperson for Waitrose & Partners said: "We are recalling our carrot & coriander soup 600g, use by date 27 November.

"Some of the pots have been filled with the wrong soup (vegetable soup), which contains gluten (barley) and celery that are not declared on the label.

What is a product recall?

"Any customers with an allergy to gluten or celery should not eat the soup.

"Any customer that has bought the soup please return it to us for a refund. We're very sorry to our customers for this error.
