Waitrose in Formby evacuated after 'suspicious package' delivered

Shoppers and staff were evacuated this afternoon from Waitrose after a package was sent to the store.

Police were alerted at 3.10pm after reports a 'suspicious package' was delivered to the supermarket on Three Tuns Lane in Formby the previous day.

Officers examined the suspect package following concerns but found it to be safe, and the matter was stood down.

No details have been released as to why the package had caused concerns for staff at the store.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were called at 3.10pm today, Thursday 17th December, following concern about a package that had been delivered to the Waitrose store on Three Tuns Lane in Formby the previous day.

"Officers attended and examined the package which was found not to be suspicious and the matter was stood down."
