United States House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson may be one of the many people the public has seen most of since the US government went into shutdown on October 1 this year. Barring a few days, he has appeared almost daily to update the public on the internal developments and target the Democrats and blame them for the shutdown (of course).
Despite Johnson making several appearances in the past 2 weeks, it appears that he is doing all of it after seeking permission from President Trump, as the control freak orange overlord is leaving no stone unturned in bringing America to its knees. U.S. House of Representatives minority leader Hakeem Jeffries is poking fun at the same aspect in an interview with MSNBC.
On being asked if Hakeem Jeffries had met Mike Johnson for discussions on the bill, he replied negatively, noting that Donald Trump had not given them “permission” to meet. He also mentioned that the meeting is likely to be deferred until the permission is sought, and that in the meantime, they would “hide” without taking accountability. His exact words in the given context were:
“Donald Trump has not given him permission to meet, Katy and we know that until Donald Trump gives them permission to meet, they’re going to continue to hide as it relates to sitting down and negotiating a bipartisan agreement.”
The particular clip in which Jeffries criticises Johnson’s lack of autonomy in government proceedings and personal matters has been shared extensively on social media, especially X (previously Twitter), where people are shredding the latter into pieces. One person on the platform wrote:
“What are they, children waiting for their parents permission?”
Many others also followed suit and jumped in to make fun of Speaker Mike Johnson. One person nicknamed him “The Incredible Sulk” in reference to the sulking expression he has on his face quite often. That said, many MAGA-minded people showed support for him and stood up against Jeffries with their unfounded allegations and conspiracy theories.
