Wait for Ayrshire Lidl store decision goes on after appeal is put on hold

The wait for a decision on a proposed Lidl store for Irvine is set to rumble on after the supermarket giant's appeal was put on hold.

North Ayrshire Council’s local review body today decided to continue the Lidl proposal to build a store in Crompton Way to a pre-examination meeting.

This is to give the local review body further time to examine the appeal in greater detail.

A meeting will take place next week where a date for the pre-examination meeting will be set.

Planning permission was first rejected in January after planners claimed the site would ‘undermine the town centre first policies’ and promote car use.

The rejection led to the formation of the Lidl Action Group, a community led campaign which boasts over 200 supporters.
