Rebekah Vardy spent around five hours - the entirety of day two - in the witness stand being grilled by Coleen Rooney's barrister.
Mrs Vardy arrived first at the High Court, followed shortly afterwards by a leg-brace-clad Mrs Rooney, flanked again by her husband Wayne Rooney.
David Sherborne, for Mrs Rooney, dedicated the morning session to highlighting WhatsApp messages between Mrs Vardy and her then-agent Caroline Watt and linking those to stories that ended up in the tabloid press.
First was a story about then-Leicester player Riyad Mahrez, who didn't turn up to training for a couple of days in 2018.
Mrs Vardy's husband Jamie and Mahrez were teammates at the time, and Mrs Vardy told her agent in messages "the lads are fuming".
Her agent Caroline Watt asked if the "fuming" line should be passed to a Sky Sports reporter, but Mrs Vardy dismissed all this as gossip, saying there was never any intention to leak.
The story did appear on Sky Sports' website.
This comes after Mr Sherborne told the court how this agent's phone - just days after a decision was made by the court to search it for evidence - fell in the North Sea when a wave hit a boat the agent was travelling on.
Mrs Rooney's barrister told the court: 'We will never know will we, Mrs Vardy, because her phone sits at the bottom of the North Sea, doesn’t it?' .
On day one he described the incident as "what terrible luck", as he accused Vardy and her agent of a "campaign of deletion".
Next up was a celebrity sex triangle involving three unknown people.
- Mrs F - “well-known celebrity”
- Mr H - her estranged husband
- Mr G - “well-known footballer”
Mrs Vardy said she was“just joking” when she discussed with her agent leaking a story about Mrs F sleeping with Mr G without Mr H knowing.
Her message to the agent was: "leak the story about her sleeping with G behind H’s back".
Then we had another anonymous sex scandal story - Mr X who impregnated his mistress - which appeared in The Sun.
By this stage, the Rooney legal team put it to Mrs Vardy "That was standard practice, wasn’t it, that you gave information to Ms Watt and she would give it to the Sun?” Mrs Vardy denied this.
Another story they linked Mrs Vardy to was the footballer Danny Drinkwater being arrested for drink driving.
She said in messages to her agent that "she wanted paying" for that information, but it seems somebody had pipped her to the post, and in a text to her agent read out in court she said: "F--- someone already tipped it... I’m fuming I didn’t give it to you earlier”. There was also a story about the model Danielle Lloyd - and again Mrs Vardy and her agent discussing leaking.
All of these denials then led to Mrs Rooney's barrister to accuse Rebekah Vardy of lying under oath.
Mrs Vardy stated in her witness statements that these conversations with her agent were "never serious".
Mr Sherborne disagreed, saying: "I put it to you that when you say in that witness statement that these conversations were never serious and Caroline would have understood that, that’s completely untrue isn’t it?”
“No, it’s not,” Mrs Vardy replied.
He continued: “What this shows, Mrs Vardy, is that you are prepared to lie under oath.”
She said this wasn't the case.
Then it came to Coleen Rooney, and the expletive-ridden reaction to Mrs Rooney unfollowing Mrs Vardy on Instagram.
Mrs Vardy's agent Ms Watt alerted her to this, and her response was: “Oh my God, you say, I just saw, what a c---".
This came at a time when Coleen Rooney had been involved in a car crash, and those messages were read out too.
In a January 2019 exchange, Ms Watt asked her: “Am I imagining this or did you say yesterday that Coleen had crashed her Honda?” the court heard. “She defo has … Go in the Instagram".
At this point Mrs Vardy conceded that she had allowed her agent to access her personal Instagram account, something on day one she said was wrong. After a break for lunch, the afternoon session began with Mrs Vardy being accused of getting together with her agent in 2016 because Ms Watt could offer her better press coverage.
Mrs Vardy said: “She offered me a way to tell me side of the story because there was so much negative press.”
The Euro 2016 tournament, where the two women first got to know each other was discussed again, and it was put to Mrs Vardy that she deliberately sat near Mrs Rooney - even though those weren't her seats - because it would mean better photo coverage in the press. She dismissed that as nonsense. Mr Sherborne later told the court about an interview Mrs Vardy had given to The Sun in December 2016 while she was pregnant.
Mrs Vardy said she couldn't remember it, then was handed a copy of the article and Mrs Rooney's lawyer said: “You think you might recall these rather large images of you naked in a national newspaper.”
Mrs Vardy said they were actually her own pictures, adding: “They weren’t taken for the purposes of this article.”
At around 3,20pm, the mood changed inside the court as Mrs Vardy started to cry in the witness stand.
She was being questioned about the abuse she and her family had received since this whole episode started, and this included trolls threatening to rape her daughter.
The judge offered her a break as she wiped tears away, to which she responded: "I don’t think it’s going to make any difference, to be honest.”
Towards the end of the day, the Team Rooney legal team focussed their attention on Mrs Vardy's relationship with The Sun.
They accused Mrs Vardy of cosying up to the paper's journalists, and arranging lunch and agreeing to set one of them up on a date.
Drama is never too far away from this case, and the day ended prematurely when an alarm stopped play at the High Court.
The first alarm caused proceedings to pause.
Everyone was told by the judge to speak a bit louder if it happens again.
It did happen again, and for a third time.
And at that point Judge Mrs Justice Steyn asked Mrs Rooney's lawyer if he'd like to call it quits, which he accepted, and the case was adjourned.
Mrs Vardy will continue her testimony tomorrow and is likely to finish in the afternoon.
She is expected to make way for Coleen Rooney, who will have her say.
