Wagamama West Bridgford could become a reality after a year of rumours

After a year of rumours circulating town, a Wagamama restaurant looks set to open in West Bridgford.

Plans have been submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council for new 'Wagamama' signage at a location on Central Avenue.

The Japanese and Asian-inspired restaurant chain looks set to take over the site where Carluccio's was based before it closed in May last year.

The restaurant has long been rumoured to be on the way to West Bridgford, with Wagamama initially denying the plans in August 2020.

As the building on Central Avenue is already a restaurant, Wagamama will not need to apply for other permission to move into the premises.

Back in 2013, Wagamama was given permission by the local authority to open a restaurant at 20 Central Avenue, but it did not operate on the site and instead, the unit opened as a Carluccio's soon after.

Plans submitted on July 7 show a Wagamama sign on the empty unit on the busy West Bridgford street.

Wagamama began in 1992 in Bloomsbury, London, by Alan Yau, who has gone onto created the Michelin-starred Chinese restaurants Hakkasan and Yauatcha.

It has expanded steadily to a national presence since, becoming a familiar eatery on British high streets.

Wagamama also has a restaurant in The Cornerhouse in Nottingham City Centre.

The restaurant is owned by The Restaurant Group, which owns the Wagamama, Frankie & Benny’s and Garfunkel’s chains.

A date has not yet been proposed for when the new eatery plans to open, but more information is likely to come to light after approval.
