WA Police seize $59 million worth of meth from Perth home, arrest five

West Australian police have seized 59 kilograms of methamphetamine and arrested five men following three raids across Perth.

Police believe the men — all aged between 28 and 45 — are part of an organised crime syndicate and were intending to sell the drugs in WA.

Two of the men arrested were from WA, while another two were from New South Wales and one was from Victoria.

All five are charged with a number of drug possession and trafficking offences and are expected to face court next week.

The haul was found in a house in the southern Perth suburb of South Lake last Friday and is estimated to be worth $59 million.

This means WA Police has now seized the equivalent of three million hits of methamphetamine in the last 10 months, with this single bust making up a significant portion.

"This is a massive seizure, 59 kilos equates to 590,000 hits," Police Minister Michelle Roberts said.

"This is a huge seizure, and it's brilliant work by our West Australian police officers.

"There's never been a bigger police focus on tackling the drugs coming into the West Australian community."

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said the syndicate was expanding into WA from the eastern states, and that the raids in Perth were part of a nationwide police effort.

"As recently as this morning, there are further investigations and search warrants being executed in other jurisdictions in other parts of Australia," Commissioner Dawson said.

"So this is an extensive investigation into an Australian-based organised crime syndicate."

Police said all five men had been charged with serious offences, including possessing a trafficable quantity of a prohibited drug.

The men have all appeared in court and are due to appear again at a later date.
