WA Police search for teenager over sexual assault of 83yo woman

Police are searching for a teenager who they want to speak to in relation to the alleged sexual assault of an 83-year-old Perth woman.

It is alleged the elderly woman was raped and burgled in her Waikiki home in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police said it is in the interest of public safety that they find the teen as soon as possible.

The teenager is described as approximately 150 centimetres tall with a slim build, olive complexion, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is believed to frequent the Port Kennedy, Waikiki and Warnbro areas.

"Members of the public are requested to contact police immediately if they have any information in relation to [teenager's] whereabouts," Detective Senior Constable Rulan Carr said.

"If you've spoken to him, or you've heard where he is, or you have knowledge of where he is right now, please contact Police or Crime Stoppers with the information immediately."

Saint John Ambulance were called to the woman's Gascoyne Way home, in Waikiki in Perth's south, at 5:45am on Friday, October 13.

She was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital where she spent the night and it is understood she has now been discharged.

Forensic investigators spent Friday searching the elderly woman's home and detectives spoke with neighbours to try and find anyone who may have seen or heard suspicious activity.

"In relation to her welfare, we're glad to say she is doing well considering what she has endured and it is our hope that we can resolve this matter for her and for her family as soon as possible," Senior Constable Carr said.

"It is an opportunity now to say to our community members of all ages, but especially the more vulnerable, that you can never be too safe.

"If you are living alone, you are especially vulnerable so take the time to obviously keep your houses secure, keep an eye on each other, do the neighbourly thing and obviously report stuff that is suspicious to police.

"It sounds trite and we say it all the time but it can be extremely helpful and link things together and help police put puzzles together," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online.
