Western Australia have declared at 9-465 on day two of the opening Sheffield Shield cricket match against South Australia in Adelaide.

The declaration came just over half-an-hour after lunch on Saturday at Karen Rolton Oval.

Shaun Marsh (118) and Cameron Green (106) put on 199 for the third wicket on Friday and on day two, Josh Phillipe (77) and Hilton Cartwright (69) increased their overnight fifth-wicket stand to 109.

Legspinner Lloyd Pope (4-92 off 15.2 overs) had Philippe and Cartwright caught late in Saturday's first session, and dismissed Matthew Kelly and Josh Inglis after lunch, as WA lost 4-29 either side of the break.

In the post-lunch session, hard working paceman Daniel Worrall (1-60 off 27) finally picked up a wicket in his 26th over, with wicketkeeper Alex Carey taking an outstanding diving catch in his left glove to dismiss Joel Paris.

Paceman Nathan McAndrew (3-71 off 31) didn't pick up a wicket on Saturday, but again made the batters work for their runs.

Philippe, who smashed 137 off SA in a one-day game earlier in the week, struck 10 fours and two sixes in his enterprising 107-ball knock.

Cartwright smoked successive Pope deliveries over midwicket and finished with eight fours and three sixes.
