A man has faced court accused of threatening to kill West Australian Premier Mark McGowan outside his Rockingham home.

Gavin Michael Higgs allegedly made the threat on the evening of last Wednesday while Mr McGowan was at home in Perth's south with his wife and children.

Higgs faced Rockingham Magistrates Court on Friday and was granted bail ahead of his next hearing next month.

Mr McGowan issued a brief statement on Friday thanking WA Police for their swift response.

"My whole family was there at the time, but everyone is OK and that's the main thing," the premier said.
