A "pretty special" Cameron Green has resumed his hot form from last season, combining with captain Shaun Marsh to give Western Australia ascendancy against South Australia.
In the first Sheffield Shield match of the season, WA made at 4-324 at Adelaide's Karen Rolton Oval on Friday, after Marsh won the toss.
Marsh made 118 of 190 balls, climbing to third on the all time WA first-class run scorers list, and Green accrued 106 off 161 balls.
They combined for a third-wicket stand of 199 of 46 overs after the earlier dismissals of Cameron Bancroft (11) and Sam Whiteman (44).
All-rounder Green, who played his first four Tests against India last summer, struck successive sixes off legspinner Lloyd Pope shortly before tea to go past 50.
Given a life by on 63 by a dropped catch at slip from SA skipper Travis Head, Green struck 11 fours and four sixes before feathering a catch to wicketkeeper Alex Carey off paceman Nathan McAndrew.
Prolific 22-year-old right-hander Green scored his eighth first-class hundred, double his amount of fifties, with his average a tick under 57 in his 30th game.
"He's pretty special," Marsh said of Green.
"He's a great kid and he works really hard on his game and to see the success that he's had so far is no surprise to me.
"He batted really well today and nice to have that partnership with him."
It was a third-straight Shield hundred at the venue for Marsh and the 32nd of a first-class career which started back in 2001.
The fluent 38-year-old left hander, who has represented Australia in all three formats, passed Michael Hussey's tally of 8007 runs to sit behind only Tom Moody and all time WA leader Justin Langer.
Marsh scored just five off his first 27 balls, but tallied 57 between lunch and tea.
SA debutant McAndrew (3-48 of 21 overs) had Marsh well caught in the covers four overs after dismissing Green, justifying Head's decision not to take the new ball as soon as it became available.
Paceman McAndrew bowled with good discipline, taking his first Shield wickets at the age of 28.
He made his first-class debut for New Zealand side Auckland in 2016 and has played one-day cricket for NSW and T20 in the BBL with Sydney Thunder.
"To get the first wickets (in my first Shield game for my new team) is nice on day one, you don't want to have that monkey on your back for too long," McAndrew said.
SA's trio of spinners struggled on a flat pitch, taking 0-145 from 31 overs, only one of which was a maiden.
Josh Phillipe will resume on 28 and Hilton Cartwright on 13.
