West Australian bikie leader, horse racing legend's daughter in Perth court over large cash seizure

Two people, including a senior bikie gang member, have been released on bail after allegedly being found with about half-a-million dollars of unlawfully obtained cash.

Aaron Karl Labrook, 52, a senior member of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang and 56-year-old Kellie Leanne Kersley, were pulled over separately by West Australian police yesterday afternoon.

Police allegedly found $210,000 in cash inside two cases in a box wrapped up as a Christmas present in the back of the car Mr Labrook was driving in Ridgewood, north of Perth.

About two hours later, officers stopped another car driven by Ms Kersley in Redcliffe.

They searched her home and allegedly discovered another $250,000 in cash, inside similar cases to those allegedly found inside the car Mr Labrook was driving.

Officers also say they found cannabis, as well as Christmas wrapping paper of the same design as that found in Mr Labrook's car.

Both Mr Labrook and Ms Kersley have been charged with possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property.

Mr Labrook has also been charged with having no authority to drive, while Ms Kersley has been charged with cannabis possession.

Ms Kersley is the daughter of West Australian racing legend Fred Kersley Junior, who trained the great horse Northerly — winner of two Cox Plates and two Australian Cups.

Mr Kersley was also a champion harness racer, who was the first West Australian to obtain a dual licence to train both trotters and gallopers.

Kellie Kersley was a successful trainer and rider in her own right, and made pacing history in 1996 when she drove Norms Daughter to the Miracle Mile, becoming the first woman to do so.

Both Ms Kersley and Mr Labrook appeared in court on Thursday and have been released on bail.

The matter has been adjourned to January 27.
