W5 Belfast announce plans to create eight new themed exhibitions for June 2020

W5 has announced plans for the development of eight new themed exhibition areas and experiences, which will open in June 2020.

The eight exhibition areas and experiences are set to be "immersive and memorable where visitors can become fully absorbed and engaged with STEM in a fun and interactive way.

The revamp has been encouraged with the help of a £3 million Inspiring Science Fund and £1.5m additional investment from the Odyssey Trust.

A further near £400,000 investment was awarded to the children's educational zone from Tourism NI.

A spokesperson for W5 welcomed the news and said they are looking forward to what next year brings.

He said: "20 years on and having reached more than 4 million visitors, as a charity established to advance public education, we are embracing innovation and the changing digital landscape to make science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) more accessible, relevant, interesting and fun for all our visitors.

"In 2017 we embarked on a journey of re-imagining what a new W5 could be. Following an extensive consultation and co-design process with a wide range of different stake holders we identified the areas of innovation and technology that are of most interest and can now share the plans for a re-imagined W5.

"We have developed a new approach to visitor engagement, both within W5 and the community, creating dynamic content with new science shows, family events and activities, presenting information in new and unusual ways.

"This is a really exciting time at W5 and we look forward to bringing you with us on our journey and welcoming you to the new, redeveloped and redefined W5 opening 6 June 2020."
