Vyncint Smith is Jets Wire’s Player of the Game vs. Eagles

The Jets offense was brutal against the Eagles in their 31-6 loss, but there was one (small) bright spot.

That was when Wide receiver Vyncint Smith scored the Jets’ first offensive touchdown since Week 1 against the Bills. Adam Gase called for an end-around for Smith and it resulted in a 19-yard touchdown. For his performance, Smith is Jets Wire’s player of the game for Week 5.

The Jets really liked what they saw from Smith when he was with the Texans, so they signed him off of Houston’s practice squad two weeks ago. In seven games with Houston in 2018, Smith had five catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Smith originally was signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Limestone College in South Carolina. However, he didn’t get that many opportunities in Houston because he’s primarily a deep threat wide receiver with speed. He ran a 4.3-second 40-yard dash.

The Jets wide receivers aren’t getting many opportunities catching the football given their situation at quarterback, so an end-around was a good change of pace and Smith took advantage of it.

Without him, the Jets would have never gotten on the board Sunday.
