VW driver who fled police more than 20 times 'narrowly missed' officer in latest chase

A police officer was lucky to escape injury after being involved in a narrow miss with a suspicious vehicle.

The grey VW Passat - seen on Friday, July 31, on Tonge Moor Road in Bolton - had been involved in more than 20 previous escapes from the authorities.

This time when the driver was asked to stop he again made off from the scene, nearly slamming into the approaching officer.

The front window of the vehicle was smashed during the escape.

It headed away in the direction of Bolton but would later be discovered abandoned.

In a tweet, a spokesman for GMP's Traffic Unit, said: "On Friday this VW Passat was sighted on Tonge Moor Road Bolton.

"It has been involved in over 20 drive offs and on that day made off from XT11, narrowly missing the officer who was able to smash the windscreen as it then headed towards Bolton.

"It has just been recovered in Great Lever for scene of crime officers."

Anyone with information about vehicle crime should contact police on 101.
