Vulnerable holidaymaker found dead in Lanzarote after failing to board flight home with pal

A Scottish man considered vulnerable vanished while on holidays in Lanzarote after he did not to board his flight home with a friend, and has since been found deceased.

Robert Campbell had been due to return home on Thursday, May 11, to conclude his first holiday, however, due to illness, he was hospitalised, The Daily Record reported.

The 44-year-old and his travel buddy Paddy got separated as Rob had to get clearance to check out and fly home. Concerned family and friends issued sent out word looking for help in locating Robert, from Uddingston, as two family members flew out to Las Palmas to look for him.

However, Margueritte Devine, his sister, has sadly said that her brother was found dead on Tuesday night. A GoFundMe page has now been set up to assist with the costs of repatriating Robert.

She said: “Sadly our brother died in Lanzarote yesterday and we’re left with a bill of 6 and 10 thousand pounds in funeral fees. We are desperate to get him home asap so I am writing this to reach out from my heart to help us bring him home.”

Condolences have also been paid to Robert online with his family thanking everyone who helped look for him.

One person said: “Could everyone please share this and help us get our (uncle Rab ) Robert Campbell home asap where he belongs.

“And a massive thank you to each and everyone who took their time to share his post about him being missing and help us find him. One of our family members and friends flew over to Lanzarote to find him and bring him home but unfortunately they were sadly too late."

They admitted that the family are all "heartbroken and devastated and shocked" at what happened.

Another person said: “Gutted to hear the passing off our Uncle Robert Campbell who was reported missing in Lanzarote has been found dead. First time going on holiday and not returning. “R.I.P till we meet again. Fly high.”
