Edinburgh resident claims council said 'there's nothing we can do' over flooded garden

A vulnerable Edinburgh resident has said that they are growing concerned after their home was almost flooded after heavy rainfall.

Rosalind Alexander from Saughton lives with vascular disease, anxiety disorder, arthritis and an underactive thyroid which makes mobility difficult.

The 66-year-old shared a picture of water rising in her front garden and says that she called Edinburgh City Council to look at rectifying what seemed to be a clear drainage problem.

However, when council workers came out to look at the issue they told Rosalind that there was nothing that they could do.

She says that she is worried that if there is another deluge then her home will be inundated with water and her belongings could get destroyed.

“My house was so close to being flooded and despite council workers coming out to investigate, they said they could not see any issue with drainage”, she said.

“They said the pipe wasn’t leaking but if it had rained another night then I am not sure if the water would have stayed out of the house.

“I feel they came and just did nothing. They never gave any advice but I feel very anxious for the next time my garden floods.

“None of my neighbours' gardens had this issue and I’ve never seen it this deep before - so it is obvious that there is an issue.”

A council spokesperson said that they will further investigate the tenant’s concerns.
