Vulnerable Dublin kids get 1,000 new books for Culture Night

Children across Dublin are set to receive more than 1,000 new books from the Arts Council as part of Culture Night celebrations.

Kids living in homeless shelters, a Direct Provision centre and a primary school will get the books by leading Irish authors in the run-up to the event on Friday.

They will be delivered this week to children living in seven homeless centres, as well as Direct Provision residents and pupils in St Mary’s School.

Arts Council director Maureen Kennelly said: “This is the first year that the Arts Council has taken on the stewardship of Culture Night and it’s a year of extraordinary challenges, not least for artists and the entire arts sector.”

"We believe passionately that the arts are for every single person in Ireland, and that is at the heart of the Equality, Human Rights and Diversity policy we launched last year.

"That’s why we have invested in broadening and diversifying audiences and participation in Culture Night.”
