Vuelta a España 2025 stage 15 preview - A chance for the breakaway

Stage profile for the 2025 Vuelta a España.

Breakaway ahoy!

The peloton will undoubtedly have tired legs after two previous GC stages in the Asturias mountains atop L'Angliru and La Farrapona, won by UAE Team Emirates-XRG riders Juan Ayuso and Marc Soler, respectively.

Stage 15 of the 2025 Vuelta a España route eases up ever so slightly and includes an early category 1 climb over Puerto a Garganta and a category 2 climb over Alto de Barbeitos before a grind through rural east Galicia.

The decent and undulating last half of the race could see a repeat scenario of the 2021 finish, with a victory for Denmark's Magnus Cort.

The general classification is led by Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), with a 48-second advantage over João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and 2:38 over Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling).

Although there is always the possibility that the GC contenders will try to gain time here, it is more likely that they will wait for their next opportunity during the third and final week at the Vuelta a España.

Climbs

  • Puerto a Garganta (cat. 1), km. 16.5
  • Alto de Barbeitos (cat. 2), km. 54.7

Sprints

  • Sprint, km. 133.1 - time bonus
