Vue to reopen Scottish cinemas this month as lockdown restrictions ease

Vue will reopen all of its Scottish cinemas later this month as lockdown restrictions are set to ease further across the country.

The cinema chain has been closed to punters since tight restrictions were imposed in Scotland late last year.

Now, all Vue cinemas will welcome back cinema buffs from May 17 - which is the date scheduled for Scotland to move down to level two coronavirus restrictions.

Vue joins other chains Odeon and Cineworld in taking advantage of the latest lockdown easing date from day one.

The firm says that it will show new releases like Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway to classics including Taxi Driver and Grease.

Scots will be faced with a string of Covid health and safety measures to ensure that customers and staff are safeguarded from the virus.

Hand sanitiser will be available throughout venues, while screens will be given an extensive clean between showings.

Customers will have to wear a face covering throughout their visit, but will be allowed to remove them if they are eating or drinking.

Seats will be spaced out to allow for social distancing and Scots are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance online.

Tickets for some showings will be available to buy online from today.

A spokesperson for Vue said: “We strongly believe in the power of escapism that a couple of hours spent at the cinema provides and we are looking forward to opening out doors for the ultimate big screen experience.

“Between August and December 2020, we safely welcomed back over 2m customers to cinemas across the UK and Ireland. We remain confident that we provide safe and controlled ways for you to enjoy much-needed out of home entertainment. We continue to follow public health advice and the safety of our team and customers remains of utmost importance.

“We planned extensively for our reopening last year and have continued to work with authorities to implement wide-reaching new safety measures across our venues.”
