Vue cinemas outlines plans for reopening as Covid lockdowns ease

The CEO of Vue cinemas has outlined its plans for reopening as the UK eases out of lockdown - but expressed concerns about the take up of Covid-19 coronavirus vaccines among young people.

Tim Richards said Vue is still "waiting to hear" on what regulations and restrictions they made need to follow - but said he hoped to hear more from the UK Government later today. And he said the cinema chain hopes to operate on a "50% occupancy rate."

However, he said was "concerned" that fewer young people being vaccinated may prevent families from returning to cinemas.

He said Vue is waiting to hear form the government later today "in terms of how we can operate, but our expectation is it will be similar to last year".

Mr Richards said this would mean 50% occupancy "which is great news", because the company usually operated on a 20 per cent occupancy expectation.

He also said we're "waiting to hear" if people will need to wear masks.

Regarding vaccination, he said it was a concern than younger people were not being offered a vaccination yet - and that vaccination passports could prevent younger viewers form returning to cinemas.
