The Hollywood sign on top of the Vue Cinema in Wood Green burst into flames this afternoon as firefighters rushed to the scene.
Firefighters were dispatched after a large fire broke out on the roof of the cinema on High Road in Wood Green at 1.18pm.
Six fire engines were sent to the scene where they evacuated 800 people.
The blaze appeared to have taken hold of the Hollywood sign on top of the cinema.
It is understood Lordship Lane and High Road have been closed by emergency responders as they deal with the flames.
Firefighters got the fire under control by 3pm according to London Fire Brigade.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and the extent of the damage is not yet known.
Social media users were quick to share images and video footage of the blaze.
One user wrote: "The Vue cinema in Wood Green is on fire.
"Seems to be the roof or Hollywood sign.
"Fire Brigade seem to have it under control. Junction with Lordship Lane blocked off, buses and other vehicles turning around."
TfL tweeted that bus routes 67, 123, 144, 230, 243, W3 are diverted in both directions due to a building fire at Lordship Lane, N22.
Firefighters remain at the scene.
In a statement, Vue Company said: "There has been a small fire in the Hollywood sign on the outside of the building containing the Vue cinema in Wood Green.
"The fire, which started around 2pm, has been extinguished.
"All customers and staff have been evacuated safely and there are no reported injuries."
