Vue announce plans to begin opening cinemas from August 7

Vue has announced plans to begin opening its cinemas in the UK from August 7.

The chain will welcome back guests as part of a phased reopening at 10 locations on that date, including two London cinemas in Islington and Westfield Shepherd’s Bush.

Cinemas in Bromley, Cheshire Oaks, Cramlington, Doncaster, Edinburgh Ocean, Farnborough, Manchester Lowry and Oxford will also reopen, with tickets going on sale for the first sites on July 30. More cinemas will be opened over the coming weeks.

Social distancing will be in place, while guests will be required to book online to make the experience as contactless as possible across all sites. There will be rigorous cleaning practices, staff will be wearing PPE and the cinemas will operate at a reduced capacity.

Toby Bradon, territory general manager of Vue Entertainment in the UK, said: “Behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard to develop safety protocols in line with government guidelines and informed by our recently reopened cinemas across Europe. The safety of those who work and visit our sites is paramount and we’ve therefore taken the time to ensure protocols and staff training are in line with the latest guidance ahead of opening.”

Vue is the latest major cinema to announce plans to reopen in the UK, with Cineworld and Picturehouse opening chains on July 31.
