Black ghosts are one of the more common enemies you will fight on your way to defeating the ultimate boss in VOYAGERS, the Kraken. They have relatively low speed. However, black ghosts can move through objects, which makes kiting them a bit tricky. About ten minutes after you enter the game, the first black ghosts will spawn.
Each ghost encounter consists of three waves, separated by a brief break. After you deal with all of the ghosts for the first time, they will spawn again at random intervals throughout the voyage. The number of ghosts that spawn remains the same, no matter how many players are on the voyage.
How to Deal With Black Ghosts in VOYAGERS
Depending on whether you are playing in a party or as a solo, there are different methods for fighting black ghosts in VOYAGERS. However, in either case, preparing enough food in advance is very important because without healing, the chances of you dying rise drastically, especially when playing solo. So, make sure to cook some fish before black ghosts spawn, and try to keep your hunger bar full at all times. Keep in mind that if you eat a raw or a burnt fish twice in a row, your hunger bar will deplete more quickly until the end of the journey.
How to Fight Black Ghosts as a Team
If you are on a voyage with some other players, then dealing with black ghosts becomes a lot easier. When the ghosts spawn, everyone should position themselves on different parts of the ship, including the crow's nest, and fight them one-on-one. When using the sword, it should take you ~3 hits to defeat a single ghost. If you need to heal up, one player can kite the last ghost around until everyone is back to full HP. The same strategy works for other waves as well.
How to Fight Black Ghosts as a Solo Player
Since you can only hit one enemy with an attack, dealing with multiple black ghosts takes some time when playing solo. Ghosts are most dangerous when they are grouped up, which will eventually happen if you kite them around. So, to deal with them efficiently, you have to fight them as soon as they spawn.
The best strategy here is to wait in the crow's nest when not doing anything else because black ghosts spawn above your ship. This way, you will be able to kill at least one or two of them before the others get to you. From then on, constantly move around the ship and attack the ghosts while keeping them at the end of your melee range. If you get hit, eat some food and keep moving until you fully heal.
