In light of an upcoming Fukuoka mayoral election to occur on Sunday, the Fukuoka municipal election administration commission posted video footage titled "Training before voting in a mayoral election," which has received over 300,000 views.
The online videos have attracted so much attention apparently because they triggered debate on the internet, with some people saying, "I like the idea," and others calling the videos "silly."
The concept of the videos is to relate voting to muscle training. A muscular man in a tank top demonstrates how to strengthen your arms and thighs during the process of casting a ballot, in scenes viewers called "hilarious."
The commission spent about 1.5 million yen (13,200 dollars) to make three stories of the series and began posting them on the city government's Twitter and other media in series from Nov. 4. Those who watched the videos retweeted them, so they grew to have more than 300,000 views on Tuesday.
