The city of Jackson, Miss., will hold a partisan general election for mayor and city council on June 8. The primary was held on April 6, and the filing deadline was February 6. If no candidate received at least 50% of the vote in the primary, a primary runoff was held on April 27 between the top two candidates.
Incumbent Chokwe Antar Lumumba (D), Jason Wells (R), Shafeqah Lodree (ind.), Charlotte Reeves (ind.), and Les Tannehill (ind.) are running the general election for mayor of Jackson. Lumumba was elected the 53rd mayor of Jackson in 2017. Lumumba won the Democratic primary on April 6 with 69% of the vote. Wells won the Republican primary with 74% of the vote.
All seven seats on the Jackson City Council are on the June 8 ballot. Ward 1 incumbent Ashby Foote (R) and Ward 2 incumbent Angelique Charbonet Lee (D) are unopposed in the general election. Ward 4 candidate Brian Grizzell (D) and Ward 5 candidate Vernon Hartley (D) are also unopposed in the general election.
The following city council races are contested:
- Ward 3: Incumbent Kenneth Stokes (D) will face Patricia Williams (ind.) in the general election. Stokes has served on the city council since 2015.
- Ward 6: Incumbent Aaron Banks (D) and Zidkejah Wilks (R) are running in the general election. Banks has served on the city council since 2017.
- Ward 7: Incumbent Virgi Lindsay (D) and Bryan Keller (Lib.) will face off in the general election. Lindsay has served on the city council since 2017.
