Voters head to the polls to choose their MPs for Dumfries and Galloway and Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale

Voters across Dumfries and Galloway head to the polls today to choose their MPs.

There are four candidates battling it out for the Dumfries and Galloway seat — Conservative Alister Jack, Labour’s Ted Thompson, the Liberal Democrats’ McNabb Laurie and the SNP’s Richard Arkless.

Scottish Secretary Mr Jack was elected in 2017 when he defeated his predecessor Mr Arkless and achieved a majority of 5,643.

There are also four candidates standing to represent Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale - Conservative David Mundell, Labour's Nick Chisholm, the Liberal Democrats' John Ferry and the SNP's Amanda Burgauer.

Mr Mundell is Scotland's longest serving Tory MP and won the seat in 2017 with a majority of 9,441.
