Vote for Britain’s favourite dog breed as ECHO choice ranks in top three

Boxers currently rank third in the race to find the UK's favourite dog breed - but with weeks still to go until the competition ends they will need your vote to stay in the running.

Competition for the top spot has been fierce with more than 2,000 votes cast from across the country so far.

The ECHO is backing Boxers as the nation’s most cherished breed - but you can vote for whichever dog you like the most at our sister site Team Dogs.

Every Friday morning, the 10 least popular breeds are dropped from the competition so make sure you don’t miss your chance to keep your favourite in the running.

Those eliminated on Friday were Basset Fauve De Bretagne, Welsh Springers, Havanese, Poochon, Irish Setter, Maltipom, St Bernard, Irish Wolfhound, Pekingese and Afghan Hounds.

A further 10 are now in the ‘dog house’ section of the leaderboard and risk being relegated later this week.

Boxers are fun, intelligent, friendly and devoted to their family. They’re known for their boisterous personality and love bounding around their local park or snuggling up with the family. Their lovable bright eyes and constantly-wagging little tails will make you fall in love.

Our readers had a lot to say about the breed. Patricia Gartland Sherlock wrote on Facebook: “They are the best breed of dog you can have. Our Mac was 12 when he died, he was gorgeous, loyal, so good tempered and loved my 4 grandkids. Nothing ever fazed him. Miss him 7 years down the line.”

Louise McClory added: “They are a lot like humans in their mannerisms and intelligence and great with kids.”

And Natalie Norman, owner of eight-year-old Moo, who is pictured at the top of this article, agreed: “Best breed of dogs ever, mine is my baby couldn't wish for a better dog.”

Make sure to support your favourite breed to keep them in the running. You can see the leaderboard and cast your vote here.
