Von Miller says Mitchell Trubisky is ‘definitely not bad’

Broncos edge rusher Von Miller knows a lot about quarterbacks. It’s his job to understand them and to get after them. That also means he knows the good quarterbacks from the bad quarterbacks.

When Miller appeared on Pardon My Take, he was asked about Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who he previously said would be a great quarterback in the NFL.

But following Trubisky’s atrocious 2019 season, does he still believe that?

Apparently, yes.

“He had good spurts, he had good spurts,” Miller said. “I don’t think he would tell you that he’s a finished product yet, but he has a lot of potential, and he’s done a lot of great stuff for the Chicago Bears, so he’s just gotta keep going. I know quarterbacks, and I can see them. I sack them, and I can see them, and I know the good ones from the bad ones. Mitch is definitely not bad.”

Trubisky had an utterly disappointing season in 2019 that was marred with inconsistencies and regression. Trubisky threw for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and completed 63.2% of his passes.

While the Bears have remained publicly committed to Trubisky as their starting quarterback in 2020, they’ll certainly bring in competition in the form of a veteran in free agency and/or a young prospect via the NFL Draft.

Trubisky is far from a finished product, but unless he can turn things around fairly quickly next season, it won’t matter. The Bears are in win-now mode, and if they can’t win with Trubisky, they need to move on.
