Von Miller’s pride is hurting after failing to backup smack talk

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller talked a lot of smack going into Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Knowing that the Browns had several injuries at offensive tackle, Miller predicted he would have a big game in Week 7.

“I’m going to go off,” Miller said Tuesday, predicting a multiple-sack performance. “I don’t know who the tackle is I’m going against, but I’m going to kill ’em.”

Miller failed to backup that trash talk on Thursday, totaling two tackles and no sacks before leaving the contest with an ankle injury. Denver went on to lose 17-14.

“The ankle is good …. My pride is hurting more than anything else,” Miller said after the game. “I talked a lot of s—- before this game and I made it personal. I wanted the animosity. I wanted this to be that game. I wanted to win and leave it all out [on the field]. Today, we did some great things in the [first] half.

“I felt like I was on the way to doing some great stuff in the second half but I got hurt. Hat’s off to those guys. They ran the ball and they had some key screens in both halves. We just weren’t quite able to get off the field on third down, and we weren’t quite able to stop the run.”

Miller owned up to the loss and ate some humble pie, giving credit to Cleveland’s offensive line that only allowed one sack.

“We lost today, and it’s humbling,” Miller said. “Hat’s off again to the offensive line. They played well today. We’ve got to rack it up and keep going.”

Up next for Miller and Denver’s defense is a home game against the Washington Football Team on Oct. 31. Miller said he expects to be healthy in time for that game in Week 8.
