Von Miller not worried about Chris Harris skipping Broncos’ offseason workouts

Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris was not present when the team started offseason workouts Tuesday. Harris has only one year remaining on his contract and he wants an extension sooner than later.

Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller does not seem to be concerned about Harris’ absence.

“It’s optional, right?” Miller said during a press conference Tuesday. “This is an optional period to be here. We all know what type of pro Chris is on and off the football field. He’s going to be ready to go whenever he’s here, and if he’s not here, he’s still going to be ready to go.

“We’re talking about ‘Strap Harris.’ He can be on Mars and he’s going to be ‘Strap Harris.’ He’s going through whatever he’s going through right now and I support him 100 percent. When it’s time to go, he’s going to be ready to go. There’s really not too much you can say about that. It’s his ninth year coming up and whatever he has to do to get ready, I’m for it.”

John Elway, the team’s general manager, has said Denver will not consider giving players contract extensions before the NFL draft, which begins April 25. The team will have one voluntary minicamp (April 16-18) before then.

After the draft, the Broncos will have a mandatory minicamp in June. Harris would be fined if he skipped mandatory camp.
