Volvo recalls 700 cars in Ireland over fears of 'engine issue' which may lead to 'unusual smell'

Over 700 cars on the Irish market are being recalled over fears of an engine issue which may lead to an "unusual smell".

Volvo Car Ireland has carried out the voluntary recall on eight of its models made between April 2015 and 2018.

It's feared that a piece of plastic in the engines of the affected cars may melt.

The safety issue could result in engine interruption and a lack of power, as well as a bad smell.

A statement said: "There are 708 vehicles affected on the Irish Market.

"Volvo Car Ireland Limited has established there is a possibility that in specific driving conditions the engine’s plastic inlet manifold may melt and deform.

Volvo S60 cars have been recalled - as well as 7 other models

"Drivers may notice unusual engine operation, including, but not limited to, the engine management light being lit, an engine interruption, or lack of power. An unusual smell may also be noticed."

Volvo's V40, V40CC, V60, S60, S90, V90, V90CC and XC90 models are affected by the recall.

The car company said it will write to owners directly and will advise drivers to contact their local dealer who will examine their vehicle.

Volvo Car Limited Ireland can be contacted on 01-4631220.

The Irish Mirror has contacted Volvo for comment.
