Volusia high school student bitten by venomous snake he took to school: report

A Volusia County, Fla., high school student was bitten by a coral snake he brought to campus Wednesday, according to a report from WESH.

The student found the snake off campus and brought it to University High School in Orange City, the report said.

The snake bit him on the hand near his knuckles, and the 19-year-old student was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The snake was killed, the report said.

Coral snakes are small, red, black and yellow snakes that are highly venomous.
