Volunteers wanted to help run UEFA Women’s Euro matches at Old Trafford and beyond

Football fans can now apply for the chance to become one of thousands of volunteers supporting the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022.

The tournament takes place from July 6 to July 31, 2022 across 10 stadiums in England, with the opening fixture taking place at Old Trafford.

There will be more than 700,000 tickets available, with coverage of every game of the tournament on TV, radio and online.

Volunteers supporting the tournament will prove vital in helping to run things, with a total workforce of over 2,000 volunteers needed across the country, performing roles in every host city and venue.

Roles include ‘spectator services’ – which involves being at the forefront on an event day, ensuring spectators have the best possible match day experience and ‘stadium support’ – where volunteers will be assisting delivery and logistics teams.

People can also apply to be a host city volunteer – these will act as ambassadors for each city, creating a welcoming atmosphere across city centres, fanzones and transport hubs, and celebrating the local areas for fans visiting.

Coun Andrew Western, leader of Trafford council, said: “The Women’s Euros are a fabulous opportunity to see world class football. But they are also a great opportunity to showcase our fantastic borough.

“Our residents are wonderful at giving their time and I would urge anyone thinking of volunteering to give it a go and be an ambassador for Trafford.”

Susan Couper, senior recruitment and volunteer manager at the Football Association, added: “Being a volunteer at the UEFA Women’s Euro England 2022 tournament is an amazing opportunity to be a part of what’s set to be the biggest women’s European sport event in history.

“Volunteering gives you the chance to see the event from a completely different perspective while enhancing the major event experience for all guests. We’ve seen huge numbers for volunteers at sports events and this will be no different, helping us to deliver a record-breaking event that inspires positive change in the women’s game, right on our doorstep.”
