By Shirley Bartynek

An East Kilbride community group are all set to clean up their town this weekend.

East Kilbride Community Litter Pickers are hosting a few litter picking events throughout the town to help raise awareness of the litter problem within the area.

The events will coincide with World Clean-up Day on Saturday, September 18.

There are two meet-up points, the first will be held at the Premier Inn/Harvester (Peel Park) car park at 10am, who will head out to clean along the Queensway at 10am - there will be two groups heading along each direction.

The second meet up will be held at Morrison's Stewartfield car park at 10am, there will be two groups here also heading along Stewartfield Way in opposite directions.

Alice Alves, East Kilbride community Litter Pickers told Lanarkshire Live: "We're hoping to get as many people involved as possible. Now that restrictions have been lifted we are hoping for lots of new faces. Its a great group we have and it's a lovely way to meet new people and build a greater sense of pride in the community."

There will be spare litter grabbers to borrow and stewards to give guidance.
