March 28--Volunteers are still needed to help clean up a portion of the Fox River in Aurora Saturday.
The Kiwanis Club of Aurora has partnered with the city of Aurora and several other local organizations to help clean up a portion of the Fox River in a one-day service event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Volunteers are still needed. The objective of the cleanup event is to unite volunteers to participate on the same day in a hands-on service project, Kiwanis officials said. At the last cleanup event in 2015, there were over 325 volunteers who helped in removing trash from in and around the Indian Creek area.
This year, volunteers are needed to help clean a 2.5-mile portion of the Fox River from Ashland Avenue to the Fox Valley Park District's Cole Center.
To participate, volunteers must check in by 8 a.m. Saturday at the Cole Center, 101. W. Illinois Ave. in Aurora.
After check-in, breakfast snacks will be available. Transportation to and from the various river segments will be provided. An appreciation lunch will conclude the event at the Cole Center, organizers said.
Volunteers must sign a liability waiver and volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver. Youth groups are required to provide one adult supervisor for every 10 children.
