Co Down residents are being urged to take part in a litter-pick beach clean and creation of a large piece of sand art with top beach artist Sean Corcoran.
Organised by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, under the Live Here Love Here campaign, the event takes place in Groomsport this Friday (May 10) and will celebrate the launch of Coca-Cola Clean Coasts Week – a nationwide week of activities and clean-ups taking place from June 1 – 9.
Research shows that the act of ‘doing good’ or giving back to your community can reduce stress, negative feelings and improve the overall health - with art therapy a chosen treatment for helping improve mental wellbeing.
Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful are urging local volunteers to ‘Do Good Feel Good’ and come down to Groomsport beach at 9am on Friday, even if they only have 15 minutes to spare. All equipment will be provided and everyone is welcome.
Jodie McAneaney, Live Here Love Here Manager, said: “We want to inspire and create a Clean Coast Community to take action and help us #CleanCoasts for everyone to enjoy, feel good and help preserve our coastline for generations to come.”
Last year 3,938 volunteers registered to take part in Coca-Cola Clean Coasts week across 207 community-based events and cleanups - collecting an incredible 3589 bags of litter… that’s 23 tons!
